Ultrasound is introduced into the part via Tofd (Time-of-Flight-Diffraction) and Pulse Echo. Tofd floods the entire weld volume with sound in one inspection
pass. The Pulse Echo channels serve as supplemental channels in the root as well as the cap areas of the weld. Each channel is selected to assure 100% coverage of the entire weld volume in (1) scan pass. All Rf
waveforms are collected during scanning by the Cscan Acquisition Program. Defects within the weld become diffracted signals of the Ultrasonic energy introduced within the weld. The full Rf waveform is digitized and
analyzed via the Automatic Target Detection and Sizing (ATDS) Subroutine. The data is then displayed in a number of different formats, including the following:
1. C-Scan Acquisition Program
2. Tofd Analysis Program
3. Global Automated Target Detection and Sizing Program
4. Automated Circumferential Defect Location (ACDL) Program
5. Automated Reporting (ARP) Program
After the completion of the inspection scan, all data obtained including the full Rf waveform, Display, ATDS, and the Flaw Analysis Reports are stored on CD-R
Media. This method of storage allows for 100 year archival life and provides a method of auditing independent of the job site.
